
| Patient Support Programs
The Duke Cancer Patient Education Program works closely with the Oncology Treatment Center (OTC) to ensure that patients and their families have access to information that will assist them in making decisions, taking care of themselves or their family member, managing symptoms and side effects, and coping with the challenges that cancer brings. Through a customized educational notebook, closed circuit television, a series of classes, and a resource center with lending library and computer access for Internet searches, patients and families have wide access to information, whatever their preferred learning style. The Duke Cancer Patient Support Program also works with the Oncology Treatment Center (OTC) to provide counseling and support groups which address the patient and families need for an opportunity to share emotions and solve problems with others who having similar experiences. Individual, family, and group counseling, as well as stress management instruction and grief counseling is available. |
